Frequently Asked Questions

These are the questions over the years we have most frequently been asked. If you have a question that you would like answered that isn’t below, please feel free to reach out to us – we will be sure to answer!

How would you define your style?

The Ken Hild Photography team is known for developing a unique style of wedding photography. It is deeply rooted in photojournalism while influenced by fine-art and fashion photography. We capture your day using unique light, creative perspectives and angles.

What do your wedding photography packages include and more importantly how much?

We have two customizable collections with our Basic Collection starting at $2499. All of the packages do include high-resolution professionally edited photos as well as a complimentary engagement shoot. Other available options are wedding albums, prints, thank yous, save the dates, gallery wraps, metal prints, wood prints and much more. We suggest scheduling a time to come into our studio to check out everything we have to offer.

How many photos do we get? When do we get our photos?

We don’t have a set number of photos that we limit ourselves to it depends on the size and amount of photo opportunities during your wedding. We average a minimum of 1500 pictures with most weddings having many more images than that.  Your photos are ready for delivery approximately 4-6 weeks after you wedding.

Can I see a full event from start to finish?

Of course you may! We pride ourselves on the consistency of our work. We know all photographers showcase only their best images on their website and social media platforms. That is why we encourage all potential clients to view full events from all photographers they meet with to see a photographers work throughout the day.

Why does it take so long to get my pictures – isn’t everything digital now?

We do a lot of culling of all of your wedding photos and the top photos get a little extra love in Photoshop (but you’d never know it!).  We make sure each and every picture looks great and is ready for print. We don’t just select a few to edit and give you the rest. We shoot everything in RAW – which then is color corrected, exposure adjusted, selective  black and white processing, clarity adjustments and tone mapping and this is done all by hand. We use professional grade software and don’t use prosumer software like Lightroom or Instragram filters to make a quick job of it.

Are you insured?

Yes, of course. If you have your reception at one of our house venues you don’t need to worry about providing insurance. Not sure about your venue just ask us.

Have you shot at our venue before?

Over the years we have been to numerous venues in the tri-state area, so there is a good chance the answer is yes, but if we haven’t all of our photographers adapt well and will scout out the area for the best locations to take photos. We also do our homework and research your location before your big day to familiarize ourselves with your venue.

Do you do cinematography as well?

First and foremost, we are a photography studio. That being said, we do collaborate with some of the top cinematographers on the island. We do offer several packages with video coverage as well.

How many hours do we need to set aside for photos on the wedding day?

When you meet with us we will discuss your day and help you determine the necessary time to capture all of the wedding images you are looking for.

How many photographers will be at my wedding?

There will be one main photographer and a photographer’s assistant. Most assistant’s are also fully trained photographers and will also capture images along side the main photographer throughout the day, much like a second photographer. With our studio, adding the additional cost of a second photographer isn’t necessary and certainly a way keep your budget. However, if you’re dead set on having a large team of photographers on your day, a second photographer can be added to any package.

Do you offer an engagement session?

Yes, every package, even tailor made packages include a session. You select the location of your shoot – we cover the majority of Suffolk and Nassau County without additional travel fees. If you need help selecting a location we would be happy to help make suggestions that fit you and your fiancé’s style.

What do we do if it is going to rain during our engagement session?

We monitor the weather very closely and decide if it is best to keep the shoot scheduled as is. Some of our most favorite pictures include an umbrella and cloudy skies. Of course if the weather conditions do not permit proper coverage we will reschedule the shoot.

We’re very busy and won’t be able to meet. Are there any other options?

We would love to meet you prior to your engagement shoot; however we understand there are some circumstances that require us to handle everything remotely, which we certainly can.  Just reach out to our studio and we will figure the best option for you.

How will we be able to view our images?

First, your wedding photography package includes a flash drive with you edited photographs. Also, some of our favorite photos will be online on Facebook as well as an online gallery of your entire wedding, were family and friends can view the pictures and purchase some for themselves.

Do you accept a list of “must-have”photos?

That’s a loaded question, and the answer is – it depends.  We always send our clients a wedding worksheet for them to record all of the important details of their wedding day. The worksheet provides our clients the opportunity to let us know important family pictures, as well as any unique photo opportunities throughout the day.  We are fully trained with years of experience and know those “bread and butter” photos every wedding needs captured. When your wedding day arrives, we have already designed a timeline for the day and based on that we know what photos need to be taken. But, if you know you’re someone that has to hand us a five page check off sheet of images you have saved to your Pintrest and you’ll be crushed if you don’t get Every. Single. One., then we wont be able to capture the day as it unfolds those candid moments, because we will have our nose buried in the list all day.  The answer above is one of those defining moments where you have to decide if our philosophies match or not.

How do you handle group/family shots?

Every wedding needs these. They are simply part of the wedding as this is one of those rare opportunities to have all of your most important family and friends together at the same place and time. We have not captured a wedding without these pictures being taken. These are the pictures we will discuss the most and coordinate before your wedding day to ensure your family and friends know where and when they need to be for those important pictures.

Do we have to come in to pick up our photos and albums?

We of course would love to see you after spending hours together on your wedding day and not mention time together during your engagement shoot. But we also completely understand how busy life gets after your wedding day. We of course can ship you any items that you would like after your wedding for a small shipping and handling fee.

What should I do once I get my photos?

The first thing you should do is make a copy of your wedding pictures files. Then put this copy somewhere safe. Then you can always use a cloud based storage system as a double backup. We archive all images and store them on hard drives as well as cloud-based storage. But, hey these are your wedding pictures doesn’t hurt to have them protected in more than on place.

Should I get a wedding album?

That’s entirely up to you. We offer a variety of sizes and styles. It certainly is a wonderful family heirloom to have – but understand some clients would prefer a beautiful piece of wall art rather than a book that will just sit around. We do offer two styles of books to fit a variety of budgets.

What is a flush mount wedding album?

This would be considered a high-end option for your wedding album. Your photos are printed on high quality archival photographic paper. Then they are mounted on thick archival boards, which give the book a substantial feel. These albums can be leather bound with crystal photo covers or canvas wrapped. There are just over 150 leather styles to choose from.

What is a press printed wedding album?

Press printing is a high quality printing, but not printed on photographic paper. These books are more of a coffee table style book. The pages are thicker than regular book pages, but still thin enough to be flexible.  You have the options to have a matte finish or a glossy finish that really pops.

How do I know if you’re the right studio for me?

If you’ve made it this far, you’ve certainly learned a lot about what we have to offer. We will make sure you have the opportunity to meet/speak over the phone with your photographer prior to booking. When you meet with us – keep in mind are we someone that would want to spend the day with? We’re the only vendor you’ll hang with on your wedding day! Do you see the style of photos you’d like captured for your wedding day? If the answer is yes, then reach out to us right away!
